Two weeks ago, the Independent National
Electoral Commission (INEC) notified the Senator representing Kogi west,
Dino Melaye, of the recall petition from his constituents.
The
commission said it would issue a public notice stating the day, time,
location and other details for the verification of signatures collected
against him.
If the process to remove him is
successful, Melaye would be the first legislator to be recalled. It is
not however the first time.
Below is a list of other lawmakers who have defeated opportunities to recall them:
1. George Okoye
In the year 2000, George Okoye representing Njikoka-2 constituency of Anambra state was fingered to be recalled.
After
a long legal battle between the lawmaker and INEC, the commission
proceeded with the process. However, a low turnout of registered voters
expected to verify the process led to failure.
